W12 grill fitment.

Evening fellas. First time posting so take it easy.

Now I've looked EVERYWHERE, and can't for the life of me see if I can have a gloss black chrome stripped w12 grill fit my 55/06 registered a8 3.0tdi v6.

I want to upgrade the grill so all the w12 grills I've seen for my year are like my standard one and non gloss with strips.

Can some1 shed some light on this please? Also where best to get one, a part number would be great as I can order it trade from work.

Either this type, European?

Or this type, either one preferably fellas. HELP!

Order the one you want and it's a straight swap, but you will need to take the bumper off. If you haven't done it before it can take anywhere from 45min to 1,5h, it all really depends on skills and experience. After doing it couple of times its a half an hour job
Grill it self, can't remember how long it took me, but no longer than 10-15min, all it is is just lots of torx screws around, 14-16 of them or so.

Few pointers when taking bumper off. As soon all screws are out, pull it gently but not to far as at the bottom on the right side of the grill you will find two connectors for fogs, parking sensors and headlights washers.
And on the left side at the bottom water pipe for the headlights washers.

Any grill for D3, as long it's the big single frame one, will fit any D3

Superb thanks mate, would you be able to point me in the direction of part numbers for the grills I have pictures there? Is there any1 on here I can buy from and that?

I work in a body shop doing restorations on classic cars like Ferrari's, Lamborghini's and racing Jaguars so I should be ok, used to do modern bentleys and rolls royces but it's been a couple of years since lol. Plenty of blokes at work to lend a hand 👌.

Slowly gathering parts to change it to what I want.

Sorry, not by the ETKA now to get PN
Here is a link to one, price believe or not is fairly common this days for S8 and W12 grills, actually a lot of desirable parts like grills or LED tailights cost more and more each year.
And buying from Germany is stress free. I get almost all my bits and upgrades from there, never a single issue.

....forgot about the number plate holder on top of it

Hi mate, few questions for ya.

If I wanted the w12 rear lights and front fog lights the oblong lights ya know the type I mean, are they plug and play? Simply swap them out?

Also the lower rear bumper valence, square exhaust trim ones, they fit on aswell? Being from a 2005 aswell?

These fogs, rear lights and lower bumper valence.

Tail lights are the strait swap

Fog lights will require face lift bumper which is a straight swap as well, unless fog connector is different then few quid for new plugs, few JPT terminal connectors, crimping tool and job done.

Rear bumper, two option.
One, buy a W12 bumper. Them tail pipes are actually chrome frames inserts attached to a bumper and exhaust boxes will have to be modified, tail pipes cut back few inches.

Option two, there are for sale frames, aftermarket ones, so cutting the bumper, fitting them on, again cutting back the existing tail pipes.
With both options ideally welding twin flat unfinished short tail pipes

The rear bumpers look exactly the same bar the extra valence with the exhaust trims in. Must just unclip surly? I need my rear bumper painting anyways but it's agro removing them isn't it?

Will leave the front dogs then ha.

The bottom of the bumper is not a separate part, the rear bumper is not that bad to remove once you have figured out how its done.

If you want some guidance then you're in luck, i just had mine off.

Are you 100% sure as I have seen pictures of them in two pieces and it has a separate swage line it really does look like it comes off separate to the actual bumper.

On eBay there is a lower valence for sale. A whole rear bumper is like £180 quid for a w12 so not to bad.

M-A8 4th May 2015 09:26 AM

You may have seen it but for the D2.
As said before, the mods which you have planned will require new front and rear bumper. £180 isnt that much believe or not for this car

Yeah money's not an issue its just I want the correct part is all as I can order it up at work.

Il just get a new rear bumper then and have a butchers, be easier to prep and paint that way. One off one on.

Got a price for the rear lights, £700 lol. Now that is too much for me anyways, I knew they'd be dear but that is a lot for rear lights. Might wait until mine play up.

Cheers fellas.

Just digging an old thread up with regards to the grill.

Can the number plate bracket on the w12 grill be bought separately? The gloss black piece with the chrome strips too and bottom? My friend was able to order one for his A5 so just wondered if it was the same for the a8? It simply clips on over the existing bracket even with the number plate attached

Yes mate it can be, there on eBay for £150 dollars but you'll pick one up at the dealers for less I imagine.

Perfect. I'll try and dig out a part number for the right one. Cheers 👍
