Replacing the centre front PDC sensors - question

Hi,

So i spent the best part of 3 hrs yesterday trying to replace a front PDC sensor as the constant beep was getting to me.

The bumper removal itself is quite straight-forward although i wish i'd had a bucket for the washer fluid.

The thing that i spent ages on was trying to do was remove the metal bar that is housed inside the bumper to get to the centre PDC sensors....I removed every nut and bolt only to realise that it wouldn't move because of the washer jets (and i couldn't figure out how to remove these without possibly breaking the cover on the outside.

See here bumper, the pdc and the metal bar i was trying to remove...

In the end, i ended up having to try and pull out the sensors by wedging it out between the metal bar and its housing.

It went fine and it's all replaced now but is there a better way to do this? I know i have another intermittent erroring sensor which is next to it which will need replacing too.

Thanks,

Oli

Oli, you did the impossible! I have my bumper off and think I will need to remove the metal bar when I have more time!

Had to replace another one today - it takes a bit of manoeuvring out but it is possible to do without removing the metal bar. Hope you got this sorted in the end as that constant beep is pretty annoying

I have my bumper in my living room now attempting to do it!

Done, refitted & tested. It works again :D

I took the clips out for the metal bar so it was loose enough to give me access to the front sensor. Should take 45mins or so or an hour max if you do it this way. +++

It seems I'll have to go through the same procedure. I have constant beep 50% of the time. No errors in parktronic fault memory though... Sometimes it works, sometimes it's just a constant beep.

I purchased one sensor and original Audi spray paint, but don't know which sensor to start with.

I guess I have to try to catch the constant beep with vagcom connected and look at measured value blocks values...

Vag-com will log errors on the sensors and tell you exactly which one(s) are playing up when you connect it up - normally it will say "centre right rear" etc which is always when you are sat in the driver seat looking forwards so that you can locate where the problem sensor is.

Thanks for your reply, Architex,

As it always happends :o, when I connect vagcom everything is working great. When vagcom is disconnected, sometimes it just beeps constantly, and sometimes it's great again. Some hard to catch speradic problem.

And to my greatest regret after the long beep situtaion parktropnic fault memory is still empty when I read it with vagcom the other day...

I've got another fecker on the way out :(
