SE vs Sport

Just noticed in the 2009 A8 brochure that the 2009 D3 SE 4.2TDI is down as having 326PS (314 BHP) and the Sport model has 350PS (345 BHP). Wonder whether the differences are mechanical, software or both. Quite a difference that. 31 BHP is about 10% extra power in the Sport.+++

I think you must be mis-reading

All the 4.2 TDI have 321bhp (326 PS =321bhp, not 314 bhp), the 4.2 FSI petrol has 345bhp.

I'm not misreading anything. This is directly from the Audi brochure, so if it is incorrect they are to blame. I also used their formula at the bottom of the page to convert to BHP. Seems I did miscalculate though and it is 322 BHP and not 314 BHP.

See for yourself in the pictures below.

SE 4.2 TDI - 326 PS (which by their formula is 326/1.0139 = 322 BHP)

Sport 4.2 TDI - 350 PS (which by their formula is 350/1.0139 = 345 BHP)

This is a 2009 brochure so maybe they had made some changes?

I'm having mine re-mapped at MRC Tuning very soon, so I will see what the "before" power figures are. I guess it could be a brochure misprint ?

Also it lists Sport LWB, did they really made sport versions of LWB?

It's a printing error then, all unmolested 4.2 TDIs are 321bhp

In fact, far as I can recall, there has never been any engine or transmission differences between any SE/Sport variants of each engine.

Interesting. +++

I can see how they could easily misprint something like that, especially as the other 4.2 petrol engine just happens to be 350 PS.

Good old Audi...

The D4 4.2Tdi units are 350PS.

Either some early units released or a typo.

Had mine on the rollers at MRC yesterday and stock figures were 310 BHP, so that was down 14 BHP on the "book" figure and it was 656 Nm (484 lb/ft), so that was up by 6 Nm on the "book" figure.

Readings after remap and gearbox flash were 360 BHP (+ 50 BHP) and 807 Nm (595 lb ft) (+ 151 Nm). Nice increase for a quick remap. It has certainly changed the character of the car for the better. Pulls like a steam train now and is a lot quicker on the pickup. The acceleration seems smoother too. This is more like I expected the car to perform when I first got it. Well worth doing and the guys at MRC really know their stuff. +++

Nice result. The 4.2 Tdi isn't exactly a slouch, but a remap really does make it a bit potent.... enjoy +++
