Loom differences 95 - 97
 

A friend of mine is swapping an engine and gearbox and wondered if anyone knows this, the 4.2 in his -95 A8 and his -97 S8, do they have the same electrical system for the engine and transmission so he just needs to change the boxes or does he need to change the complete wiring loom?

I would expect some differences - The gearbox is going from 4 to 5 speed, so the gearbox ECU will have more actuators to control.

The engine loom could well be the same, but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me if changed as from the end of 1996 the whole A8 loom became car specific, rather than generic so I'd probably approach with caution +++
