D3 S8 issues
Ok, few small issues with the S8, nothing major, but seemingly common:
1) Drivers door soft close inop - 2nd hand motor? 2) Drivers door keyless inop - 2nd hand handle or WD40? 3) TPMS inop - deactivate through VCDS? 4) MMI screen stuck, won't close - new gears? Although that looks a PITA. 5) Fingerprint start inop - 2nd hand sensor, or bin and stick new start stop button in? |

1. Both my fronts don't work but IT told me when I bought it from him that someone he knew had replaced all of his and had real trouble with door alignment afterwards, so I've left mine as they are, I'm more than capable of closing a door by myself ;) 2. The WD40 tip has worked for some, worth a try as a replacement handle will require painting, unless you're fortunate to get a second hand Daytona grey one 3. VCDS will tell you which one isn't working, I know which one of mine is throwing up the fault (dead battery) so I'll replace the unit when I get the wheel refurbished. 4. Someone will advise on the best option for this common issue 5. I haven't heard of this one, do you know why it won't work? Hopefully you'll get them all sorted to your satisfaction soon +++ |
For number 5, the car will still start if it does not see any fingerprint. The fingerprint is only used as a mechanism to retrieve that persons stored memory. Anyone should be able to press the start button if the key is present inside the car, you'll get an unknown user error in the DIS but the car will still start. There are several antennas inside the car to detect the key, if one of these is faulty then replacing the button will make no difference.

Who did you buy it from, I would try and get them to rectify these issues common or not.

The screen I can live with, the door stuff I'd like sorted as hey are the touches hat make the A8 experience. TPMS, is out on all 4 wheels, don't fancy spending £200+/- just to check the pressure, so probably just deactivate. |
Tmps - apparently removing fuse deactivates system
From US forum it worked for some |
Thanks, will try that.

If you have VCDS you can turn off the TPMS.
I have to do that when I run the winter wheels. |
