Diesel from the air
Dinosaurs not needed. No need to give up IC vehicles ever!
A similar thing was shown on the James May show a few years ago. Seems its pushing ahead and being rolled out comercially. Although I seem to remember the one on TV used solar power via mirrors, no electricity. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-34064072 |
Hmm…this seems to be the key quote from this BBC article:
'You can take electricity and convert it to fuel for your vehicle with about 13% efficiency," explains Dr Paul Fennell, reader in clean energy at Imperial College London. "If you compare that to taking electricity and charging up an electric vehicle, then that can be done with about 80% efficiency," he adds. |
I agree its all madness anyway. If its only 13% to get the fuel, and then the IC engine itself is only around 20% efficient, its a crazy way to waste energy.
I must find a link to the American solar version, that at least skips the first step, ie doesn't need electricity. |
When I saw the thread title, I assumed it was about recovering and re-combining all the unburnt diesel/particulates/sulphur dioxide spewing out of the filthy, stinking invention of Herr Diesel. Not that I'm biased of course.

Sounds more like a proof-of-concept experiment than a commercial enterprise.
