D3 serviceable shock bits
1 Attachment(s)
Hi All,
I am having trouble finding the info I need about my leaking left front shock on my 2006 D3 A8. The leak is coming from the brass inlet valve on the side of the shock(see photo). My question is "are these bits serviceable"? I would really hate to replace the shock be it recon/second hand if all that was required were a few o-rings. I know the info would be on here somewhere but being new here I am having navigational jitters. Any help greatly appreciated. |
It's not a common problem. Where is it leaking? Where two different colour metals seal?

As far as I am aware there are no end user serviceable parts. if air is leaking from where you say it could just be a side effect of air leaking from the bag and escaping where you see it.
You can buy refurbished parts from the likes of Arnott rather than OEM if you need to save a few dollars. |
I'm afraid your only real route of repair is a replacement, the brass fitting is secured from the inside and it's unlikely you can get to it withoutif stripping the strut down which is not a good idea without the experience or equipment the like of the supplier will have.

If you are in Queensland then WW Shock Absorbers in Brisbane do reconditioning. Its worth a call.

Many thanks Boris. It seems there are so many options on you side of the world. I have spent the afternoon here looking for second hand parts with absolutely no luck whatsoever.
Enquiry sent to Airdominace for quote. Thankyou Chris. |
Sorry mate just saw your location :-)
Didn't pay attention |
That brass part on the Touareg is serviceable.
Unblot and bolt new in, we had to make a tool to do the job, but it worked. The end of that part looks like a bolt head? What does etka say? I've stripped down a couple of all road shocks easily, I got no idea what the A8s are like. But don't put slime in the bags, it don't work. |
