A7 back at last

Well.. after a few weeks wait (6!!!), the A7 has made it back to the driveway, complete with a whole new engine!

It died on me twice in the space of a week, with Audi unable to find a fault the first time. The second time it stopped terminally with a lovely smoky smell from under the bonnet. After a flatbed trip to Audi, a new starter motor was fitted after a few days wait to no avail.. Some manual assistance was applied and the engine would start but apparently made 'some really scary, going to throw a conrod, noises on one bank', so some further investigation ensued and a new engine approved by Audi warranty.

Finally fitted last week along with a mount of some kind (still waiting for the full write up) and road tested over the last few days at an estimated cost of over 10k, plus the A5 I've had for the duration.

A5 was OK.. 2.0TDi manual FWD.. nowhere near as nice as the A7, but not bad seeing as all I was doing was heading to and from the office really. 3G MMI High, with the SD slot and Audi connect/Google maps and really active traction control, though that may just be me expecting it to behave like a quattro :)

6 weeks! Ah well, hope all's well that ends well! +++ No idea what the issue was?

Yeah... First week was taken up waiting for the starter motor, and then we had Xmas/New Year in the middle, so would probably have been a week or two less normally, though Hamilton Audi do have guys working nights Mon-Thurs as well.

And it flew through the MOT this afternoon too (which conveniently ran out while they had it).

It's good to hear a good news story about Audi fixing a serious problem like this without any hassle or haggling - I take it this was still in warranty?

The Yorkshireman is very pleased to hear the Scotsman getting his every cents worth +++

Would have been nice if it didn't break in the first place though.... ;)

I actually meant what the issue was with the engine? :)

All under warranty thankfully! Didn't cost me a penny, well apart from the lost month of VED, but I could live with that.

I'm waiting for the report back, but no idea what actually went yet.

I'm willing to bet they won't investigate the inner workings of the engine, unless Germany ask for the engine back to establish the cause....
