Wing Mirrors

Hi There,

Had a long drive over the weekend at night and the drivers side mirror is great. I don't get dazzled and it has a dark but clear look. Passengers side however is obviously a replacement and i'm guessing a cheap one as it's very bright and dazzling at night.

On looking at them in the daylight, the drivers has a plastic surround arround the actual mirror glass. The passenger one you can see the mirror edges. I'm guessing a cheap aftermarket glass.

Anyone got a source / recomendation for getting hold of a decent one ???

BTW my build code are

6XL = Exterior mirrors: with memory function, automatically dimming, electrically foldable/adjustable/heated
5SJ = Left exterior mirror: convex
6TS = Right exterior mirror: aspherical, large viewing field

Oh and I always wonder if the mirrors dip or not anyway as the rear has privacy black out on it, but there's a world of difference between the two i've got!

Don't have a source or recommendation, but the part is 4E0857535D. Maybe try TPS.

You tried a8 parts I see they have many mirror parts for sale on eBay

A8 does have an ebay listing. No mention of dipping or the letter on the end

£60 new!

We searching seems to bring up lots of different end letters, which I guess are varients?

That will not be autodimming at that price, autodimming is around £250 mark new and second hand are over £100 and very rare. I don't think dipping is related to glass at all, it's just a function in controller to turn it a bit down in reverse so that you can see kerb.

Dipping as in auto dimming...It's the same thing!

The tilt down to the curb is part of the motorised house and personally something I find rather irritating so tend to leave my swivel position knob in the centre.....Also stops you accidentally knocking a switch and messing up that "perfect" mirror setting ;)

No. Totally different.

Dipping, the mirror mechanically moves down when in reverse.

Dimming, stops headlight glare by using electrochromic glass.

Should be stored as part of your "memory seat" system I think...

Two too many "Lee's" on this thread. Very confusing. :p
I think that one was meaning that when the mirror switch is set to the left so that the nearside mirror electrically "dips" (motor in mirror housing) when reverse is engaged leaves the mirror open to be moved accidentally whilst driving.
OK easy enough to reset, but you only spot the problem when you need the mirror in a rush and you do not have time to adjust, or press the memory recall button. :D

I know what I mean, I only hope you do too.

The auto dimming part of the mirrors mirrors covers all but a 2mm band round the edge of the mirror surface. You can see this clearly (like a picture frame) when they dim and less clearly, but its visible, in non dimmed setting.
Compare your mirrors and you'll be able to tell if they'r different
