Where exactly is the phone prep ECU please? ...

Does anyone know, please, the reasonably precise location under the left side floor of the Telephone ECU?

It's been a bad month for the A8! The variable life service needs doing, the thermostat's playing up and now the phone ECU has packed up after working fine for 11 years. [A VCDS ECU scan shows 77 Telephone "Cannot be reached" and shows the optical bus and electrical bus statuses are "Error" - MMI comes up "Telephone not installed"].

It's a bit of a kerfuffle to get the seat up, the trim off, carpet folded back etc., so as I'm almost certainly the last owner of the car, I'm thinking of just cutting a flap in the carpet.

So, if anyone's replaced this ECU before, can you confirm:

a) Where the unit is [I guess it's a box about 10" by 8"] in the floorspace
b) That there's no connectling cables lurking inder the carpet that I could cut

Thanks - Julian

Oh Julian
Please don't cut the carpet !!!!!!!!
It takes less than 5min to remove the ecu even without removing the seat, pull the trim off, pull/rollback the carpet and there it is, open the lid and ecu is there

I'm only 45min away just in case

Only minor cuts required !

Thanks to correspondent M-A8, after several swapped emails, I was able to swap the Telephone ECU by taking the door trim plate off and pulling the carpet up from the front. :)

I just couldn't pull it back enough to get the ECU lid up enough to get the old ECU out so minor cuts were required that aren't really visible after refitting everything. :(

And now the phone works again - Thanks MC ...

Julian
