Where do I find the BT / Phone Module

Hi guys n gals,

I'm looking for some advice / guidance on where I find the Bluetooth / phone module, as I'm not very clear on where it's hidden.

From what I understand I need to remove the passenger seat and the sill cover and look under some carpet?

Any more precise directions or better yet pictures would be very useful. I did have a search but only came up with some basic text instructions. I'm nervous as I don't want to remove anymore than necessary as plastic fittings always seem to break on me!

I'm hoping to upgrade tomorrow from the Motorola handset to a proper Bluetooth module over the weekend.

yes thats exactly it

on the passenger side, remove the sill cover, kind of slides of, and unbolt the seat, tip the chair back and carefully pulll the carpet out minding the power seat wiring. you should be able to lift the carpet enough to get to the hatch or space where the bt is

there is a utube clip showing seat removal though it doesnt go further than that, but quite usefull

You might be lucky and be able to get to the ECU by just lifting the carpet from the front. [Saves all that seat stuff] :)

Lift the mat and then the rubber trim from the door plate. You can pull the carpet up at the front and hopefully pull it back to clear the plastic floor box. [Thanks to Marcin for that tip]!

Be aware that the BT ECU is not a straight replacement for the Motorola ECU ...

I thought the only variance was the external aerial - the Motorola equipped cars will definitely have one, and if you swap it with a non rSap capable unit then you have an aerial cable left floating otherwise I thought it was straight swap ?

If you want to throw away the Motorola 'capability', and get basic Bluetooth handsfree, I gathered from posts I'd read in the past it really was that simple?

Thanks Gents.

My understanding was that it wasn't a straight forward swap in so much as the connector blocks on the different control modules are different. There may also be some VCDS codes to be changed.

Both of which I have in hand, I just don't actually know how to best access the module itself that I need to change.

Thanks again.

ok, looks like I was wrong.... :tuttut:, but it doesn't look hard ;)

See here, for an excellent thread on the topic:

Thanks IT.

I have read that thread front to back a few times - it is very helpful. I just wasn't clear from reading it exactly where I need to to locate the module. Sounds like its in a box under the carpet in passenger footwell / under seat area.

Peeling plastic trim pieces off makes me nervous as experience for me is that they tend to break clips or even crack / damage which would be a crying shame on my lovely interior.

take a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UrqI0kksWg

shows undoing the seat plastic bits, the plastic bit is very resilient if you follow the advice here

its actually located forward of the seat area so as someone said depends how much carpet you can get up without seat removal
