Key switch stuck
Afternoon all,
Finally got the project home and parked on the driveway this afternoon. Decided to connect up some power with a slave battery and see what is/isnt working. To be fair to it everything sprung in to life ok. Windows/sunroof/mirrors etc all doing as they should. Even all the interior/exterior lights are working fine. Only small snag....switched everything off but the ignition key wont come out of the lock....am i being thick or should it just come out? It did ok when the battery was disconnected |
Gear selector needs to be in P
|
Done that, now suspect it may be an electrical gremlin to do with the selector/ignition release solenoid

Transmission is going in to park OK as the dash shows up 'P'
I suspect the solenoid has got stuck as the key would turn all the way to off before I connected the battery. It's now stuck at the first position. Steer column covers will be coming off this week and a liberal application of WD40 should cure it.... if not a little percussive maintenance :hammer: |
There should be a small pin whole in ingition, ring around key slot. Use a needle to press and key pops out

Ooooohhhh, gotta try that before I get the screwdriver out +++

Problem solved
Got an hour to myself this evening, pulled the steering column apart. Turns out there is a cable running from the gear selector to the ignition switch.
When you press the button on the side of the shift lever the cable retracts locking the key into the ignition barrel. Turns out the liberal application of wd40 was needed on the cable as it was simply not returning properly. Job done, key now out! ......now just need to put the engine back together :( |
