New XC90 powered by OTHER cars on the road

Obviously the 2nd law of thermodynamics applies, so there's a cost to those other cars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second...thermodynamics

Weren't the Dutch doing something similar to power street lighting?
It's an interesting idea, and to some degree they're probably harnessing wasted energy but I suspect, for the most part, "highway robbery" is an appropriate phrase since they're likely to be making travel for the vehicles using the road less efficient. It would be interesting to see a comparison of a vehicle coasting in neutral along that road vs a normal road. I would imagine the vehicle on Volvo's road would lose forward momentum much more quickly. |
Of course it cost more fuel for other cars, the wheels kind of sink in the road so it is like driving uphill or on the soft ground all the time. Have you tried driving bicycle in loose sand or in the mud. It's a daylight robbery in plain sight, can't see it happening in real life.

I was expecting to see a broken down XC90 being towed by another car :)
