Retrofitting memory function to passanger seat.
Hi!
I've searched the best I could and did'nt found what i was looking for so if this has been discussed before I would like to be guided to that thread. So, i have a S8 -00 with memory function on the driver seat but would like to retrofit that function to my passanger seat as well, is it do-able in a semi-easy way? Thanks! Paul |
Its conceptually not that hard, but to make life easy you really need to source a passenger seat with memory in it already (or to make life easy, get a drivers seat from abroad)
The memory function works by having sensors on the shafts of each movement of the seat, wired back to a module inside the seat that tracks it all. Im sure it could be retrofitted, but would be a real pain. Much easier to source the right seat, then move your existing leathers onto the frame if you want a perfect match. Also the drivers side memory switch changes, as position 4 is hard wired to position 1 of the passenger side, so the driver can move the passenger seat to a default position without having to move over. It depends how oem you want the retrofit to be...... +++ |
blimey it sounds like a lot of effort for something thats rarely used (at least in my cars)

The reason I was thinking about an retrofit was just because the "fun" of it, to make my car a little more complete, but it sounds that it would require a little more work than I was in for. I guess it would have to be a RNS-E retrofit to begin with. Thanks, Paul - Sweden |
RNS E is an easier, and probably more rewarding place to start......
I did retro fit passenger seat memory to mine, but it was really a by product of all the other stuff I was fitting at the time..... |
Passanger Seat Memory
I've already done this Mod on my 97 A8... was bored a few years back. Did buy the bits From A8 Parts..
In my case I stripped a drivers seat for the wiring and the Memory Module. The sensors basically fit the other way around Basically the different between the Memory and non memory wiring is that the non memory... the switches go directly to the Motors... where as the Memory, the switches go to the memory module and the motors go to the memory module... hence easier with a loom as a lot of hacking otherwise..... You do indeed (as stated) also have position sensors that feed into the memory module.... I had to buy the trim piece from the dealer for the passanger door. I also modified the unit so that you don't have to keep you finger on the memory position. (much nicer).. Whichever way you go will be somework... while getting a drivers seat from a LHD car would be simple... it does not (that I'm aware of) contain the seat sensor so would need to modify that... To be far mine does not really get much use...... but from my point of view..... whenever the passangers have gone... and I get back in the car the seat resets back to the default (well depending on key fob) position... which imo is a deffo a bonus. If you decide to go ahead and need any help... I should still have a load of pics from when i did mine..... Daz |

Great to hear someone has done the whole retrofit, I've hypothesised its relatively straightforward, if tedious possibility, but never seen it done +++ Sharing a couple of photos of fitting the position sensors would be interesting for all to see if you have any +++ |
