Auto lights
 

Having an issue with auto headlight activation. I have to manually switch them on and off. In auto setting they remain permenantly off ( no matter what the light levels )
No error codes anywhere.. Yet the dash backlights will brighten and dim according to ambient light. Fuses all ok too. So I was thinking light sensor in the mirror housing but confused that the dash backlights are responding to the levels of ambient light? Any ideas?

The dash lights respond to ambient light anyway as there is a sensor in the instrument cluster for them.

If the auto activation only has died, I would be replacing the switch and seeing if that is the problem.

It is easy to remove, just look for video instructions for removing any VAG headlight switch.

Yes, switch sounds a good place to start - Also try switching it each way aggressively if not change, take the switch apart and clean it with a tissue and some alcohol before replacing - there's not much to go wrong.

May need a new gel pad behind the light sensor on the windscreen
