Replace Analogue TV with DVB-T on 2004 D3
Here goes
My 2004 D3 has analogue TV, and I want to change this to Digital TV. I know its a straight swap out job, the question is though on the 2004 the TV module is mounted on the back of the media rack so the whole thing has to come out to swap it over. Question 1 is how does it come out. Looks like I need to unbolt the carrier for the Satnav DVD to start with. Question 2 is can I do the swap without disconnecting any other wires and fibre apart from the analogue tuner of course. |
Hi Manny,
I remember it being a frustrating job. You have to disconnect the amp, tv, radio, dvd nav, unbolt the pdc module and move it away, unbolt the fuse carrier, remove the wiring loom that runs along the top so the frame has space to move out. Once out you can swap over TV modules. Good luck. http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showpost....45&postcount=5 |
Yes, just went out and took a look. If that raised part of the floor was not there it would be a whole lot easier.

Disconnect the battery, you could do it without disconnecting it but it makes your life a whole lot easier, it's pretty much remove everything then unbolt the frame swap the unit over and bolt back together, just make sure you get the in and out the right way round on the fibre otherwise the mmi will throw a fit +++

When I purchased mine the supplier said ten minutes max and that he would do it for me at one of the meets. Due to time restrictions (you all know that drink & talk are too important) this failed to happen so I went home and did it myself.
End story is, have patience, take everything out. It's easy really, just takes a lot more than ten :p Hardest part is getting that bloodie media rack out, careful you do not scratch the boot floor paintwork. It goes back in much easier (pushing rather than pulling) and by then you are determined the sod will not defeat you. Then reception depends where you are. Outside our house the building blocks me but twenty yards up the street and I can watch anything. The local Asda car park is brill. SWMBO leaves me in the car (if I promise to be a good boy) while she goes "shopping". Interestingly I call it "spending". |
Do i need to change any coding of the new digital tuner or is it just plug and play
|
Its plug and play, just swap it over and go.
Hopefully I'll have one to install any day now. |

Woohoo
Got the tuner today, and installed it this evening. Did not take as long as I thought, although I had a close issue but luckily because the battery was disconnected it was not a problem. I lost one of the bolts that hold the satnav cradle in the radio module, why it has those big holes on the top edge... Anyway, took me about 1.5 hours from start to finish including a test before reassembly. |
So envious of you chaps with TV in their cars. I know I'll hardly use it, but I want to retrofit it to mine all the same.
Without hijacking the thread completely,... does anyone know the best and not astronomically expensive route? |
