Wanted - 147mm centre cap for 20" alloy

Hi all

On my first proper run out in my new 8, I seem to have lost one of my centre caps, somewhere between Manchester and Buxton. The part number is 8DO 601 165 K I believe - does anyone have a single cap in reasonable condition that they'd like to sell me? Am also happy to consider a full set if the price is right.

Cheers

Adam

I have a collection of those deliberately kept as spares, let me check what I have that I can do without.
They are a mixture of genuine and copies in varying conditions, some are pristine and I keep those for "show" only.

Or try asking our sponsors?

Also, there are two different "finishes" to the outer "metal" section (with the 9 holes in), some are "brushed" others "polished". Which type are yours?

HPSauce, would be much appreciated if you have one you can spare.

As to the finish, I dont have anything to compare it to, but attached are a couple of pics of one of the 3 I still have on the car. Id say they were polished but hopefully the photos will help?

As you can see, they are not perfect so if you do have a slightly scruffy one that you can spare that would be brilliant!

Thanks

Adam

I've got lots of spares, and think I'm fairly local (Altrincham?) to you, so let me know if that helps.

I'd call that the polished finish. And I do have a similarly slightly scruffy one that I could sell you. Genuine Audi.

On the other hand if Stephen (Tintin) is nearby and has loads, maybe start there. Especially if it's easy to meet up and look at them.

So, I'll assume you see what Stephen has first and just get back to me (PM is probably best) if you do want one of mine. If so I'll send you a picture and suggested price.
Can't recall what I paid for them but postage will be a bit of a pain as it is just over 100gm and will need to be a "small packet" which will probably add about £3.

PS You can dismantle and refurbish them; I've done that, as have others. I think documented (tediously) somewhere here.

Just to add that I've just had a quick look on eBay and ALL the listings are selling cheap Chinese copies that WILL NOT FIT PROPERLY.
That will also almost certainly apply to any future listing describing them as NEW. So beware!

There is just one listing where there is insufficient information to be certain and they are listed as used, so I've asked the seller for specific further details that should clarify.

And while in eBay I checked what I paid previously and it was typically £12 to £15 per centre cap for GENUINE Audi ones, used, slightly scruffy. No idea what genuine NEW ones are.

HPSauce: many thanks for your help with this, think Ill see what Tintin has and if that doesnt work out Ill drop you a message - cheers!

Tintin - would it be possible for me to pop over sometime to see if youve got anything suitable? When would be best for you?

(Must say, Ive only been on this forum a few days and Im really impressed with how helpful everyone is - just what I needed as an A8 noob!)

Exactly. This is NOT like many other forums - nobody gets "flamed", abuse is frowned on (well, Dezzy can get a bit "frank" with his views ;) ) and nobody minds if an oft raised question gets raised again. The level of technical understanding (not mine) is fantastic and the aim of most here seems to be to help each other keep these cars in A1 condition.
I am on a Land Rover Freelander forum and the difference is stark! (its mostly about their dogs - usually Labradors )
