Ticking when driving along

A strange one this that I need your help on.

When driving I can hear a ticking noise from the front drivers side. Its a tick/ click that matches the wheel speed as I drive along.

About 40 mph there it is, a little faster and its going away but that's due to the noise of the road taking over as the tick is quite quiet.

I have jacked the car up and the CVs are all good with no leaks and the boots are in place.

The wheel moves and if I turn by hand I cannot hear anything, plus no wobble or give in the wheel either.

Nothing seems to be catching on the disc/ pad and the car drives as expected, plus nothing stuck in the tread of the tyre and the wheel all seems good.

Diffs and seals have been done and nothing seems to be leaking.

Any thoughts?

Wheel bearing?

Was my initial thought but I have no play in it, plus do they not normally grumble and groan?

Have you checked the treads for stones? I know it sounds silly and simple, but I got caught out with that once :hammer:

or nail/bolt etc in tyre?

Fixed it!

Removed the wheel and found one of the plastic protection parts had lost a nut and dropped onto the driveshaft. This is the one that is on the inner wheel arch just above the lower wishbone closest to the engine.

Every time the driveshaft turned the clip on the inner cv boot was rubbing onto the plastic cover and making the noise!
