D3 mmi interface.

Hi all

Firstly i have done a search and the archive links dont seem to load.

So with that in mind. The mmi screen and all radio and other are not responding on my 2008. It was working fine. I parked up as normal. Then when i returned to the car. Started up and nothing. I pushed the button to raise the screen. It came up and thats it.

If i hold the large centre button it shows the mmi screen but does nothing else and then screen returns to black. The screen will not return to its housing.

Any ideas?

Oh and i can hear a clicking from the boot. Sound like it is coming from the bose amp

Vagcom is really the way forward here.

Something on the MOST bus has likely failed, and that could be any one of a number of fiber optic linked items.

If you can unplug and bypass the fibre on the faulty item, the rest will boot up but its quite a fiddly job.

Bose amp was a common culprit of this issue on early cars.

Good info off IT , here's what you need to bypass the items on the M O S T circuit .......

Update

Ok so little update.

Went to my cousin who can fix most things and has vagcom. We think it is the sat nav dvd but without the MOST bypass can't confirm. One is on order. It seems to me it's a connection issue as it's intermittent. We did get it going long enough to review old fault codes and all point towards to DVD.

He did have fun changing the boot up screen, I now own A8 that thinks it's a RS6. Shameful.

I'm hoping it's the navy as I don't use it. But money to be spent clearly.

Anyone know a good place to get modules repaired???

Update

so a little fault finding (you have to love fiber optic cabling, just get them near and they work) without a bypass as it did not arrive and i got fed up waiting.

The Radio module has had it. looking to get this one repaired, though there are signs of moisture in the fiber terminal, though no other signs full stop.

are there known issues with water ingress in the housing containing the amp and radio modules etc. it sits directly under the actuators for the boot, though a thorough inspection yielded nothing...

so advice please people. attempt to have the original unit repaired? or seek a replacement and hope from eBay. though it will need to be programmed to that car through VCDS???

thought please.

Check for leaks around the rear windscreen. If going with a used unit I have a feeling component protection will need to be removed by the dealer.
