D2 FL, 2000 detachable towbar wanted
 

Hi All,

As part of out long-term plan to return to caravaning (part of the reason for buying a gassed-up A8) we need a towbar.

If anyone is selling a detachable towbar or knows a supplier with some old stock please PM me. +++

So far the prices are prohibitive, taking into account the brass to spend on the car and the fact we have to actually buy a 'van! :o

No rush, buying a van late Summer 2017 is the plan... ;)

Current bar manufacturers for the D2 are AutoHak, PFJones and Bosal.

I have an AutoHak one currently on my car which is a horizontal mount detachable one (so the hitch receiver is permanently sticking out below the bumper). The construction is high quality and I'm reasonably happy with it, except it occasionally strikes things thanks to the S8's low suspension (and you'll need to modify one of the exhaust mounts as a 3/8" steel plate occupies one of the same holes).

The ultimate in D2 towbars is the Westfalia vertical mount bar - invisible when detached!
No longer made, you'll need to talk to the forum sponsors or hope someone reading this thread will sell you theirs!

I found one (in Australia (in Melbourne in fact) - think hens teeth) with a bit of luck and patience - obviously not mounted yet! So in England your odds should be higher!

Patience is requited for the Westfalia one - set up an alert on ebay as they do turn up occasionally

Ebay.de too, quite a bit of stuff turns up there that's not listed elsewhere.

Audi Tradition could be worth a look too
