MMI set-up advice

Hi all... hoping to get some advice from you folks about the MMI set up on my A8 D3. It currently has the most up to date software version but it seems as though it wasn't set up properly as the mpg readings seem to be in litres and the car configuration appears to be left hand drive. I can access the green hidden menu so wondering if there is anything I can do in there to change this? Or do I need the VCDS? Cheers :D

The mpg will be VCDS. Cluster possibly set some where in Europe.

When you say left hand drive, what do mean?

In the green menu, car diag, look for linkslenker, it should be unlocked.

Hi Scott - thanks for the reply. LHD meaning for example that when I open the driver door, the passenger door displays as open on the instrument cluster screen and vice versa. The mpg reading as it is also seems like it is the EU units from doing searches on the net.

The LHD settings from what I know will affect things like AC when adjusting driver's side it will say passenger.
You can't have MPGs in km, it will either say xx mpg or xx l/km (l/100km).
If you open left door it will show left door etc.
You can change measuring unit within MMI if you think the setting is incorrect, Car the Settings or Car, Setuo and settings, not hard to find.

As you realise, this is two questions and neither are simple to answer! You'll almost certainly need VCDS to sort it!

1) Left / Right setting[s].
Your conditions probably reflect someone messing with the car ECUs in the past. The Driver and Passenger door ECUs are identical but coded differently. Unfortunately I can't find any coding explanations for the ECUs but I have ECU HW 4E0 959 760 in both doors and mine are coded "3670112" Passenger - Left - ECU 06 and "3670126" Driver - Right - ECU 36.

2) Miles/Km
As Marcin indicates, this is relatively simple, as it is a selection off the MMI menu somewhere for the units to be used for the car. HOWEVER, if you have a fingerprint reader, Mi/km is one of the settings that is retained for each user. [As there are 4 users with fingerprint reader, this make 5 variations available, as there is also a setting that is used if the driver is not identified].

Hi Julian, just to point out that you've mentioned door ECU's then listed seat ECU's.

The door ECU's are specific to their location:
Driver (0x42) module J386 hw 4E2 907 289
Passenger (0x52) module J387 hw 4E2 959 801
Coding across the driver and passenger doors are equal and due to the different hardware they can not be swapped by coding alone and will always be driver and passenger. Also, because we're RHD our door modules start with a 4E2...

As to the front seats, coding is different between the driver and passenger - but this does not tell the control module it is Passenger (0x06) or Driver (0x36), yet both are an identical J136. There is a +12v 'jumper', PIN A30, on the Passenger (0x06) module, it is absent on the drivers (0x36) module. This is hard wired at the factory.

Hi there, from what I can see the AC etc seems to be ok (will check again on my way home). Just the door coding seems to be LHD for some reason. :eek3:

Tried looking for the settings in the main options as well as hidden green menu to no avail though for changing mpg which currently reads as xx l/km (l/100km.

Hi Julian - no fingerprint reader. Don`t actually have any idea what/where that is if I do have it lol. I don`t think I do, only have the keyless go entry/locking system (when it decides to work that is! :D )

Can you take a photo of the problem?

Hi Matt - do you mean a pic of my driver door open and then the centre instrument cluster image showing the passenger door open instead? I did go through the 'green' menu and found somewhere it said the vehicle had a LHD set-up from what I could decipher in German in one of the menu options!

Will try and take some pics later today. +++
