I fitted mine and the brother in law helped with generic wiring install. Covered in a thread on here somewhere. If you use the OEM wiring and module it's much easier, but more costly.
I have to manually select towing mode, cos it's generic wiring. I think, not sure, that VCDS is required to code in the towbar with OEM wiring. Essentially you need to remove most of the boot floor's carpet or lift it up, the rear bumper and drop the rear silencers a few inches. I backed my car up ramps and it was relatively simple. I didnt have large splined bits, which you need in addition to torx, machine mart saved the day. Essentially you remove bumper, and impact bar and slide the U shaped towbar under the boot. I bought new fixings from Westfalia (who were really obliging), as my towbar was used. |
Hi I bought mine new from Westfalia with the 13 pin socket and extra wiring kit for caravan as they don't come standard.
Fitting bar as said fairly easy wiring all fitting behind battery had to come out makes it easier. only when I put mine back that I realised that extra wires were missing. It will need coding mine isn't and it just bleeps when reversing with caravan, everything all works just doesn't switch sensors off. I don't have VCDS. Don't forget bumper cut out, 13 pin folds away so nothing seen. Would recommend they get the 13 pin genuine kit from P F Jones, I've towed for many years and always had 13pin much better than 7 pin, even if only towing trailer or for bikes. David |

Here's the thread I mentioned:
http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11057 There are cut outs on the bumper too, all quite simple and logical, if not time consuming. |
great info thanks guys
