When Tony met Dean....
3 Attachment(s)
I had a little drive to see big T5 yesterday up in Derby as I've had a desire to replace my written-off 2.8 with a rare red A8/S8.
Since the insurance company gave me the bad news, I've been to look at a couple of S8's as this seems like the natural progression for a 2.8 owner. Unfortunately the two I've viewed haven't quite hit the spot. Neither has the new insurance quote for an S8 either  So when Tony messaged me to say that he may let his red 2.8 go to a new "careful" owner in the not too distant future, my love of bright red cars got the better of me and I went for a mini-meet (sorry for not inviting anyone). Strangely, just as I was pulling up to Tony's house, a silver A8 D2 on Polish plates pulled in front of me which made me think that I wasn't going to be alone on my visit, but it wasn't to be. It seems the owner of the silver A8 is a local. So I had a good old look at Tony's red motor and had a little test drive. A few things didn't quite light my fire about the car such as the rather throaty stainless exhaust note (I'm not into the sound the car makes) but overall, the striking colour with the newly refurbished wheels and 20mm spacers was a big hit with me. There's a little issue of a reversing dent at the back to sort out (Tony blames the Mrs. which is understandable to all misogynists - sorry MikkiJayne :D) but apart from that, it looks like this red beauty may be coming down to Rushden in the near future. My insurance company was kind enough to sell me back my scratched 2.8 for a very tempting price and since the interior of the blue is in slightly better condition than the red, a few bits are going to be swapped over before the freshly MOT'd blue is passed on to a new owner to bring back to standard / use as a toy / transplant a more powerful engine into / use as a spares car / disassemble to sell off the parts at a nice profit (i.e. I'm not sure what will happen to it but it will be leaving my ownership in the near future should anyone be interested). Anyway, I should have taken more that 3 pictures. But here they are anyway. And also, good luck to BobbyShafto with whom I just chatted to on the phone a few minutes ago. I'm sure there is an A8 (S8) out there with your name on it :) Dean http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1494759034 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1494759034 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1494759034 |
What a couple of beauties!
In red the D2's do look particularly stunning. I've never seen one in the flesh. |
Two lovely cars! They really colour match together too.
Good luck I hope you buy it. |

Two beautiful cars... although I'm slightly disappointed at this thread not being about me meeting someone called Dean. :D

So now I temporarily have 2x A8 2.8 Quattro Sports - one blue and one red Big t5 (Tony) said goodbye to his former love yesterday evening, and BIG RED made its way down to Rushden to join my insurance write-off aqua blue pearl. I'm going to swap a few parts over from one car to the other but will be leaving the RNS-D in the original car (and the Symphony in the red one) as I don't fancy the hassle of all the rewiring, holes in the boot lid and sensors on the wheels type of stuff. And I found that I actually never used the sat nav in the old car anyway. It was just too much of a hassle to enter a destination when Google maps on my phone did a much better job. So in a week or so my old car will be ready for its new destination - wherever that may be. But for now, all efforts are on the red. Dean Note to self: Give Tony his number plates back http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1495060035 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1495060035 http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/attachmen...1&d=1495060035 |
Has this car been wrapped as Red rather than original colour?
It comes up as white on the DVLA database! |

When I originally knew about Tony's car, I phone Audi to confirm the paint code that was on their spec sheets. They told me it was originally specced in Tornado Red. Which is what it is now (albeit a slightly faded-with-time version). Why it is down as WHITE on the DVLA database is a mystery. The car is definitely painted with no signs of a wrap. Can anyone think of why the DVLA would have the colour as WHITE? Dean |

I would contact the DVLA and ask them in writing to correct the incorrect colour on the database |
