A8 snow mods
I guess most of you guys have seen this.
https://youtu.be/MKASb4Vwpto A bit silly really and i thought the a8's came with a webasto that you could add a pump to and a programmer to make a pre heater. Surprise surprise when adding lots more pressure the standard air suspension went pop ! |
The client is supposedly loaded, but they buy a low spec V6tdi A8L
Why not a W12, or V8T, or V8tdi? Yes, and what about the webasto heater and a cold weather pack? The heater may not heat the engine though, but a sump heater would be standard fitment in Canada and Scandanavia and probably Russia too, or the webasto might very well do it anyway. Engineers will have thought of that. That snow plough was never tested either, and wouldn't be road legal without a way to get the headlights unblocked... |
I think its been thoroughly proven that a block heater such as webasto which heats the coolant and circulates it through the engine block is much more beneficial than a oil sump heater such as Wolverine which statically heats the oil pan. The oil pan heater puts out much lower power, and is unable to heat the engine block. When the semi-warm oil hits the freezing block it quickly looses most of the temperature it gained.

I'm pretty sure the diesel D4's don't come with a webasto as standard like the D2 and D3 did.
Instead, its an electric heater to provide instant heat into the cabin. It took my D4 4.2 V8 aggggggges to warm up as it was a huge lump, and with an 8 speed box and oodles of torque rarely broke over 1500rpm. Yes, webasto heater im sure would be a D4 factory option, but not on the UK brochures as they never have been. I thought the episode was a bit silly really, and starting with that model seemed a bit 'budget' |
It may be a "budget car " to some people but its a distant dream for me to have a new car like that. 😀
