Help I’m and idiot. (EPB fail)
 

ok, I know now.... I tried to use VCDS to retract the brake piston AFTER I’d removed the Caliper. VCDS is having a hissy fit and my cluster has error messages all over the shop. I put the new pads on and wound back the EPB motor so I could reassemble the caliper. But now I don’t know, if possible, how to get the EPB working again.

HELP!!!!!! PLEASE.

Ok mate, I'll try and help you out.

First thing can you do a controller channel map of Measuring Values and Adaptation and post the results.

Do this in Applications > Controller Channel Map > address 53, select both boxes and output as a Pre-label file.

This is so we know the state of the controller, and we'll take it from there before trying anything else.

Also, what is the state of play with the car... is the caliper back on with new pads? have you a battery charger connected?

Update:

Took car to CAMCO Automotive, told them exactly what had happened, VCDS faults logged etc. Having contacted (Mechanico) Lee from this site he had suggested the EPB ECU can fail when cycling the pistons. Told CAMCO this, and they poo poo’d the idea. Rather than buy an ECU I’d found for £45 I figured CAMCO, who’ve got a very good reputation would find faults rather than me just throwing parts at the car.

They checked all the wiring and found no faults, and ordered a used ECU for £100. They fitted this today and after a week all is well in the world again, apart from inside my wallet were a £400+ hole now exists.

Anyway, at least I have a car to drive my brother in law’s bride to be to their wedding this Saturday!!!!
