Help please

Went to MIJ performance exhaust yesterday and had a mid sport exhaust fitted which i am very pleased with..but..after getting home my neighbour popped round to tell my hazzards were flashing..so i pressed the remote and checked all the doors and boot were locked then went inside..
About 11pm just as we were going to bed my alarm went off so i hit the remote and it stopped....2am this morning it went off again..not happy....so this time i left it unlocked as its on my drive..

after looking in the boot this morning i have found that the panel that covers the batterey has what looks like a brown earth wire attached to it which has been broken...now i know when they were doing some welding/fitting the new exhaust the man told me they dont disconet the battery they use some red thingy on the leads which stops my electrics getting fried and also saves your cars settings.....but it looks like they snapped the wire they took the cover off in the boot for access to the battery

I have reconnected the wire and it has not gone off once today at work...so im hoping it wont go off at 2am again...
But has anyone any idea what this brown lead is........??????

I thought it was an earth for the cover as I believe it is metal?

Unless I am wrong:Confused:

went off this morning at 6am.........i shall check the wire back further to see if they have pulled it completley off and re connect....

This has only started since they worked on the car monday.....not happy...

Trouble is i live in berkshire and im not travelling nearly 2 hours back to them....

Does the alarm sytem fail on these....it went off and then went silent and the flahers stayed on..???

Conan_the_Librarian 9th December 2009 01:53 PM

the alarm has its own battery and when that fails funny things happen. Search TSN for alarm battery and see what you get. Tell us about it and I'll sticky it if it's good.

Thanks,i checked the wire and its fine,,so i replaced the connector and tightened it up...
Its been alarmed all day at work and not one beep...hopefully that will be it.....if not option 2 replace the siren....:o

thanks for the link...well i took the siren out and yes the batteries had corroded pretty badly so i whipped the unit out got it apart and am getting some simillar batteries for it...but,,,,when i lock it witht he remote and leave it sometimes the flashers go off....im confused...

i changed the batteries in the remote and it seems really slow for the remote to lock or unlock the car...strange..as the siren is not in the car would this cause the flashers to go off..

The thing that is worrying me is that this never happend before MIJ messed about with my battery when the did some welding on the new exhaust.............any ideas....:(

The alarm system is basically built into the central locking pump, which sits next to the alarm siren where you have been working.... We've not known the alarm element of the CLP to cause problems before, but I guess its not impossible.

I cant recall if the CLP records what triggers the alarm using vagcom, I seem to think it does, in which case that might be worth a look and get to the root cause of the problem. Note that the D2's dont have time stamping on the Vagcom errors, so your best bet is to clear any errors in there, then wait for it to go off and see what fresh errors occur... (unless there is only one error in there)
