Power steering mix

Ok I don't have the words for this but I'll ask anyway. I asked my wife to top the engine oil up. I have a very slight sump leak despite fixing it a couple of times over the years. Anyway I get a call and a picture , "in here?" So she topped up the power steering fluid reservoir with engine oil. Then sent a picture. Yeah... No idea how much probably half a reservoir full. I'm being polite and not using any of the appropriate words, I mean we've only had the car for a ******** decade. She is half way down the motorway miles away. Anyone with any experience of mixing the fluids? It will have about 150 miles more on it by the time it gets home. Thoughts? Will a system flush do the job or has it pretty much destroyed all the pipes/seals already and I'm in for a new rack? Incidentally is a new rack an engine out job? Anyone any experience (like on a third world adventure) any of mixing them.

Don't worry - it'll be just fine. Engine oil is quite benign to the sort of rubber used in power steering so won't eat the seals, and it will mix just fine with the green PSF that should be in there. It'll end up a bit thicker than it should be but mixed at the ratio you suggest it won't do any harm. Flush it out with PSF and it will be just fine +++ The system holds about a litre so get at least two. Put a full litre through it and then full up with a second litre.

That is good to hear. Many Thanks. I'll do it at the weekend. Car suffered no I'll effects. Some defrosting elsewhere is required.
