Virus Alert
I got this message in a PM this morning from Lady_Administrator from this Forum:
"A virus alert was noticed on your computer. We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately" My computer is behind a Corporate Firewall and the installed McAfee software is reporting nothing. I ran the suggested check and it reported lots of serious threats and suggested I download and run a Program. I could not get rid of the 'offer' screen until I went into processes and stopped it there. I think this is one of these Scams which purport to find henious viri and then want you to download (and purchase) their software to fix these problems which they actually generate! Am I being overly suspicious? Does this site advise using such software? |
yes i got the same,am having quite a problem at the moment, apparently a"man in the browser"

Hi, I also had this private message.
I have full virus protection, firewalls and NAT for my internet connection. The only action I took on this messege was to read and then delete it. |
Thanks to those who have brought this to my attention....
Yes, its a complete scam and obviously nothing to do with us... "Lady_admin' is on of dozens of 'new users' we get on a weekly basis who are in fact spam bots designed to ruin the forum community by posting their wares online to the masses. We have a fairly tight registration process, requiring graphics to be read, emails to be verified and then I still have to personall vet each users before I make them 'live' and able to post. This is why we very rarely get any spam, but sadly it does hold up genuine members from joining.... This new 'attack' of spam is quite interesting, in that instead of trying to post on the forum, they simply send a PM to every user instead, which is more direct and kind of genius really..... PLEASE DONT FOLLOW THE LINK as it will undoubtably take you somewhere you dont want to be !! This person does not have your email address, and does not know whether or not you have a virus, they are just 'spamming' on the off chance. I'll be happy to answer and questions in this thread, sorry for any inconvenience / undue worry this may have caused..... |
Thanks for the prompt reply, Ian, nice to see you are in Control.... LOL
I sussed it as she had no posts to her name but the 'Lady' bit got me to follow it a bit - total sucker for a Lady me! It'll prolly catch out most of the BMW drivers though........ |
heh, my computer has a virus, - yeh right that will be this Linux based, locked down PC.
|
I've made a few tweaks to reduce the chances of it re-occuring.......

These people need to get a life. Luckily it's obvious what they are doing and I doubt any of the astute individuals on here would follow the links but I wish you could get phsyically hold of these morons!
They need another hobby! Glad it's spotted and under control!! +++ |
