S8 MOT Passed for another year +++

Only one advisory for some corrosion on the rear springs, nothing else.

Job done and a good result on the old girl.

Wow, that’s 12K more than mine. Have you had the gearbox replaced, or is it still on the original one?

Very reassuring mines on 116k +++

Might be a good idea to source some springs before you need them. I struggled to find any, even used ones, when I needed a set recently.

Well done +++

When was that done (miles)? At 185K on the original gearbox, I’m getting nervous. lthough it has had 3 Mackies services and runs pretty smoothly.

wasn't there one on ebay 300,000 miles original gearbox

Well in fact it’s had two complete gearbox rebuilds in its life, I bet no other D2 could claim that about their car!

The first being Mackies around 163,000 by the previous owner, he looked after the car to a very high standard and in fact had the gearbox serviced by Mackies prior to that point. Though that was not enough to save it and it still failed even with the prior servicing. Though the service was done when the miles was into six figures (146,000) hence even with the good work the damage was probably done.

The gearbox then started to leak around 195,000 and was low on fluid and second gear slipped. That caused it to go into our favourite limp mode and thus I had to make a decision on what to do. I do not blame Mackies for any of this, looking back at it now I believe some work done at another garage caused multiple problems. One of the main reasons I do so much work on the car myself now.

Hence it was taken to Auto Trans in Gloucester who did an excellent job and completely rebuilt the gearbox again. I have to say they did superb work and would highly recommend them for anyone who is not close to Glasgow and based in the South West. They took their time and did it right, the owner is clearly an expert on ZF boxes and knew it was a 5HP24 and the fragility they also come with if not serviced. They have also serviced my A8 QS gearbox and did that to a very high standard also for £185.

I just had mine pass the test as well. It sure feels great when everything is in order :)
