quite possibly the most boring thread I've ever started

now i never usually care about fuel consumption.........but I've noticed over almost 2 years of owning the S8 that the average fuel consumption has been dropping ever so often, i tend to reset it every few months or so, as far back as i can remember it was about 19.5mpg then it was 17.6 and now i haven't reset it in about 2 months and its on...

either I'm getting a heavier foot or somethings else is amiss :D

whats everyone else's got on there's?

18.2

darrenjoe90 27th February 2010 07:17 PM

19.3 at the moment but i reset it at start of most journeys. sometimes i have seen an average of less than 16

thebluewhale 27th February 2010 07:27 PM

The same thing is happening to my car. Even with the wife driving it the mpg has dropped from about 19.9 to 17.8 over 12 months and she drives it nicely.

That's a bit strange. Could it be something faulty?

I agree - over the 2 years of ownership I have seen my MPG fall - wonder what it could be as I am sure my driving style hasn't changed that much:Confused:

it could just be you're seeing lower figures because of the weather....heated seats, heated rear (and front) windows and mirrors and blowers and lights on for every journey all use a huge amount of power, plus starting the car and letting it warm up and melt the ice all eat petrol. I've only been an 8er for a few months but my average is down from 25 to 22 because of all the demisting i am doing. Indeed the handbook says that the rear window heater uses 1 litre of fuel over 10 hrs operation all by itself! :o

Concur with the weather. I think you'll also find that as you have got comfotable with the car you use the power more without thinking about it. I'm down about 2MPG over the almost 3 years I have had the car.

yeah good point every journey in the winter involves every electrical thing in sight on :p

IT 28th February 2010 10:06 PM

I've had the engine ilding for two days whilst I try and solder the inside of the car together, I guess that might have dinted the average a little :D

(disclaimer, of course you should disconnect the battery, and not even consider running the engine whilst working on the electrics, never mind the LPG tank disconnected, and the interior missing, but it was cold ok, so leave me alone..... Do as I say, not as I do... :p )

19.9. I rarely re-set it. Pity there is only one set of data. Don't most Audis have set A & set B, so that you can record over a long time plus journeys?
