Is this likely to be a transmission fluid leak?
4 Attachment(s)
For the last little while I have been noticing a small amount of fluid has dripped onto the pavement after the car has been left overnight.
It has emanated from somewhere above the bumper and drips from the region where the lower bumper skid connects to the under engine plastic cover. (pictures attached) Attachment 23451 Attachment 23452 Attachment 23453 Attachment 23454 Would I be correct in assuming that this fluid is leaking from the radiator region? I am guessing that it might have something to do with the transmission fluid cooling. The fluid is clear and slightly oily when rubbed between my fingers. I would like some advice on what I might have to remove in order to investigate this situation further. Thanks very much, Paul |
Are you sure it's oil? Water / antifreeze mix can feel a bit "slippy" when squeezed between fingers. That looks like the perfect spot for an oil cooler water leak.

Also the perfect spot for a screenwash leak which can also feel slippery, and given the colour that's my guess. Assuming you have headlight washers, it could be leaking from the hose joint between the pump and the bumper hardware, or its quite common for the screenwash pump to leak from one of its two seals.
The gearbox cooler hardware is on the opposite side of the radiator, and that oil will be brown / grey. The two radiator hoses are on that side, but coolant should be pink rather than clear. Next step is to pull the undertray off. You should be easily able to see whether its dripping from the engine, radiator, or screenwash tank +++ |
