Boot Struts
How strong should they be? When I press the boot release button on mine it litterally just unlocks it. I would like it to open too, as per most mercs and BMWs.
Is it meant to open right up? If not has anyone found a stronger strut to make it pop open? |
mine just opens the lock too but not the boot so I'd be interested in the answer to this too. On my A4 it opens the lock and then the boot rises too
|
Same with my A8 - the button opens the boot but then I have to manually lift the boot lid up.

I don't think the D2 came with the auto boot option and it was an extra on the D3 (I don't have it :()

The D3 auto boot is actually quite useful, I've used it a few times to open the boot by the time I walk back to the car, throw my bags in, hit the close button and go and get in the drivers seat.... Really saves time ! |
Im not after auto open/close, just with stiffer struts when you hit unlock they would lift it all the way open right? my brothers MX5 was like this, when you unlocked it on the key it opened 1/3 of the way, simply using the gas struts.
I see no reason that with a stronger strut it wont open all the way. so when your struggling with lots of stuff in your arms you can just press the unlock button on the key, and it will open right up. Im happy to close it 'manually' again after. |
There are a few that have done this already on Mk6 and Mk5 golfs...
MK5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iv9Y_ZgZxr4 MK6 including 'how-to' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3rIN...eature=related http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?p=31448 Looks like there have been some issues making it work but some have managed. They did need to turn around some of the brackets to make the angle of opening easier.... Lovely mod....who'll be the first to have a go? +++ |
Another example - Passat:

I wonder what boot struts would do the job? I would have thought that any of the VAG boot struts would do - perhaps the ones from those Passats?
