Air suspension - Strange Issue

Hi,

Had an 07 3.0tdi Sport for 2 years now and suspension had been faultless so far. Yesterday however whilst driving around town the yellow & green lights came on so I pulled over and the rear had sunk right down but the front looked ok. Took it home, retried it later and all was fine, went to the take away and no issues.

Tried again the today and this time the front is right down and wont raise, the same yellow & green lights are on.

I'm not too clued up on this but that cant be a leak if the problem is alternating between front and back can it? sounds more like compressor. I dont have access to Vagcom unfortunately.

*Edit* ... just tried again at lunch there and the front still wont raise, same green and yellow dash lights. i can actually hear either the air compressor or an air leak in the front passenger side wing also.

Thanks

The air compressor is on the passenger side front but behind the fog lamp.

You may be able to take the grill out and check it’s function. You should know when it’s running.

The passenger side on the firewall area behind the guard lives the valve block which controls where all the stored air goes. This is also a fail point of the system.

You’ll have to hunt it down but this will be harder without the scan tool

unlikely the front and rear struts have failed at the same time so I'd be looking at the valve block or compressor. If you are keeping the car then VCDS is a very worthwhile investment. For now, all you can do is strip the passenger wheel liners and put some soapy water over the valve block to check for leaks. If the compressor keeps over running, it can burn out.

Thanks for the replies guys.

So i decided to buy an cheap vagcom scanner from amazon but when i connect (this is the second try, ive owned a bluetooth one for years and it says same thing) it says there are no stored codes in the module. Am i doing something wrong? Have I bought the wrong type?

Ordered this ...

Anyway no change in symptoms, front still stuck in v low position. getting booked into garage on friday. The guy there also suggested possibly distribution block.

That looks like a generic fault code reader which will only connect to engine, it will not read suspension controller or any other units in the car, only engine.

If you want something cheaper than VCDS check out OBDeleven or Carista. Not used CArista myself but OBDeleven is OK.
