7spd gearbox

Recently encountered a few 'Gearbox malfunction - you can continue driving' messages on my driver's display. Fluid was replaced shortly after I got the car in Oct 2022. It can occur immediately on engine start or after a few seconds. The error message occurs more reliably on a trip to the shops when I return to the car so I'm wondering if this is heat-related i.e. multiplug connector coming loose when warm:

Software version: 0002
Hardware number: 0B5927156E

ODX name: EV_TCMDL501
ODX version: A02044
Long coding: 000001

Trouble codes:
P179D00 - Cooling oil valve Electrical error

Not sure but I have a feeling that my car might need to have the mechatronics upgrade kit fitted to fix this. Has anyone had this done on their B8 3.0 V6 supercharged? Or could it simply be a loose electrical connection?

Cheers

I've had the mechatronics kit fitted - doesn't involve the box coming out, but it's still not a cheap job. From memory the kit is about £300 and includes new circuit board, wiring, couple of valves etc. Requires ODIS coding as well. I can look out the bill if it helps? David did it for us. Car is now on 96k and the clutches are still fine (touches ample amount of wood!) and the work was done a couple of years/20k ago IIRC.

I only got a couple of warning messages, which flashed up and disappeared.

I have a copy of the TSB for this, and your code appears in it, which I've attached :)

Thanks for the detailed update, looks like I'll be giving Dave a call this week.
If you can dig out the bill, that would give me some indication on cost.

Will do mate - am away from home atm as my dad's in hospital with an infection. Should be home on Saturday. Was somewhere in the £1200-1500 range IIRC

Thanks for the update Adrian, I've got it booked in with Dave at DS Autowerks in Crawley this coming Wednesday.
Cheers, hope all is well.

All done

Picked up the car late Wednesday, cost was just over £1,300. I no longer get those incessant 'Gearbox has a malfunction, you can continue driving' errors and the car now performs well. Previous issues prior to rectification were quite a strong tendency to creep in 1st gear when sat at traffic lights, and gearbox occasionally popped out when reverse was engaged. It was also getting a bit thumpy when the car had been running for a long time in city traffic. One of the errors I was getting was oil cooler valve. Tested fully yesterday with a delightful 1h50m drive to do 14 miles!

Great job as usual, thanks to Dave at DS Autowerks in Crawley.
Cheers
