2024 software update and maps ordered, along with SIM card
I've ordered, from TheNavMan.com, a 2024 Software and Map update bundle.
Also I'm expecting a SIM to arrive imminently. So applying these to my 2015 D4 W12, and installing the SIM, can I expect topographical maps etc to work? The phone under the armrest? Access to other online services? Etc. Thanks |
I have an update...
I received 3x SD cards (System / Maps / Activation). The Engineering menu was activated by pressing CAR first, and then BACK, and held for a few seconds. The System update took about 30 minutes, then I did the same with the Maps update which took about an hour. I don't believe I needed the Activation SD card, it made no difference to the message "A valid license is required to receive online traffic data", so I asked the NavMan support about this and the reply was as follows; "TMC functionality has stopped working on all Audi vehicles with these systems as of a couple of months. Trafficmaster who provide the service discontinued without warning and Audi are aware and there is no fix for the issue at present. The only way this can be fixed would be with a modified maps release in future to change the provider to an alternative. There is lots of talk on the Audi forums regarding it. From latest news these units have also been discontinued by Audi meaning no further updates are being released". So I'm going to cancel the SIM which I bought for the car as it's pretty useless, especially as 3G has been turned off and 2G will not support Google Earth anyway. My best option now is to get one of the CarPlay / Android Auto replacement units and do a retrofit. Anyway. Hope this helps someone. |

Last year it became an annual cost available through the myaudi app. I blagged it for free last year but guess I will have to pay if I want it again. Funnily enough I've just had an email reminder from Audi UK about it expiring later this month |
Interesting, thanks. I know companies have to make money but stuff like this should be freely available IMHO.
Anyway, I'll get the upgraded retrofit soon. |
You can reactivate google maps with a script that changes the URL being accessed, there is no technical reason for it not to work other than Audi choosing to disable it as it competes with the Here service they part-own. The reasons that Audi gave saying that the later higher resolution imagery is unsupported on the older technology is proven a total, utter lie.
https://www.audi-mib.bg/audi-google-earth/ Audi also turned off the MMI Online Destination query in October, this too was provided by google and folks are working on a script to change the URL. You could say "Onine destination IKEA" and it would return a list of the nearest IKEAs - now it just says iinternet unreachable. This is one reason to shun online smart technology in cars - little by little everything becomes unsupported and SSL certificates expire etc.. |
