An S or not?

On the Bay at the moment. Looks like just a 4.2 A8 to me.

An experts opinion?

Its an S +++

Hard to tell the difference between an S and Sport usually.. But I'm pretty sure the 'S' V8s have a red V8 logo on the engine cover, so this is likely an A8, but looks pretty well specced so could be an S.

It has an S8 back box though, true its missing the red V8. I'd still put my money on it being an S though, also I've seen some real poverty spec S8s and really high spec A8s so can't really go on that. +++

I vote for an 'A'. The engine cover should be red. The door sill protectors should be silver with S8 embossed. The boot badge ain't quite right and the S8 didn't have a 'V8' badge on the front wings.

Just had a look on ASKMID as that will give a model and that says it's an S.

Wouldnt buy it myself looks like a poverty spec dog. Looks like he went to halfords to pimp it and all he came out with was a can of black paint. :ROFL:

Seller seems to think it has all possible toys. It doesnt seem to have any. :ROFL:

I checked it on MYCARCHECK and its showing as an S8 4.2 quattro Auto
4172cc blue, 4 door saloon, petrol registered 07/04/1998
I noticed it had a newer steering wheel than its age would normally have been (the later recessed button tiptronic) and of course the wheels have been changed but I think its pretty normal to expect mods on a car of that age

PsYcHe 23rd September 2010 10:27 AM

hmm.. new wheel.. different engine covers..

Maybe had a wee bump & airbag set off?

Singh 23rd September 2010 11:17 AM

I think that's being way to cautious!

PsYcHe 23rd September 2010 01:44 PM

As long as the engine checked out and nothing looked scary on it, it's a tidy enough car for the price. Could simply be that he fancied the new wheel and broke the original cover.
