Stereo Upgrade Part 2
So after upgrading my headunit (Thread here) I decided to complete the upgrade.
Soon after the headunit, I added an amp - a Blaupunkt THA555 - this fits in the rear "cubby" perfectly and provides front, rear and sub outputs (using the 3 RCA inputs that the head unit gives out): http://joyfields.com/users/jeremy/a8/amp.jpg Then I added 17cm Coaxial Focal 165 CVX rear speakers. The advantage of these was that I could fit them under the stock grills (with a little bit of modification!) and only the keen eyed will spot that the grill sits slightly higher!: http://joyfields.com/users/jeremy/a8/rear_speakers.jpg This weekend I built a box for a JL Audio 8W3V3-4 8" subwoofer and fitted it in the ski hatch (having angle grinded out the panel last weekend!): http://joyfields.com/users/jeremy/a8/sub_box.jpg http://joyfields.com/users/jeremy/a8/sub_in_boot.jpg http://joyfields.com/users/jeremy/a8/sub_ski_hatch.jpg. After that I decided to add an AV panel into the middle consol. This has RCA inputs for the headunit (Aux 2) and a stereo jack input (Aux 1) and a USB input (which also does the ipod) and finally a USB socket for charging any device: http://joyfields.com/users/jeremy/a8/av_panel.jpg I'm really pleased with the result - I've aimed for subtlety and the resulting sound is fantastic. (I also changed the electric aerial for a whip one - similar to the S8 style) |
Im not a big fan of aftermarket installs, but credit where credit is due and that looks very good indeed...
I like the tidy integration, the center console looks fab... I'm thinking you'll quickly get queue of folks wanting to do the same +++ |
Thank you sir ;)

Very tidy install indeed. My old rover 600 use to have a 12" JL Audio sub in the same position ... with the armrest down, it sounded amazing.
Overall, great eye for detail on the interior. Would love to see this at one of the next meets mate...:) Oli |
Thanks Oli
