Replacing RNS-D
Hi all, the laser in my RNS-D sat nav reader is goosed, so managed to pick up another complete head unit from a fellow member in here. Is it just a straight swap with these or does some sort of coding need done? Also anybody know a good place to get the removal tools from?
Cheers Brian |
I got the tools from ebay for a couple of quid. Being a double din unit you need 4, apposed to pairs that most people sell. they arn't great quality to be fair but work ok.
Make sure the spring clips are Ok as I managed to get the old double din unit stuck in my A4 and couldnt work out how to release it as the tools wouldnt do it. Its plug and play - you just have to enter the 4digit pin (written in pencil on the top of the unit, but I will PM it too you as well) and your away. you will obviously then have to set up your radio stations etc. Whilst your in there you can snip your TV in motion wire, if your that way inclined... I can take a photo of the wire that needs cutting when mines out to test your new unit if you want? |
Also worth noting that when you remove your old unit, to get the keys out again DO NOT just try to tug them back out the front! You need to press on the metal clips on the sides of the case to simulate the unit being installed.
Shouldn't need to use the keys to fit the new one, unless you need to have 2 goes at it +++ |
Thanks guys, Adrian would you be able to share where you got your updated maps disc from, I probably should update mine as its currently a 2005 set, and wanted to check if they do one for the D
cheers Brian |
Hiya
Drop an e-mail to euronavdiscs@yahoo.co.uk and they'll let you know - as an idea of cost, my RNS-E (so DVD of W Europe) was £33 by recorded delivery for a 2011 disc. Not sure if they do RNS-D as I'm not sure Audi still support it, but I'm sure they can advise and sort out whatever the latest available version is. Been very pleased with mine and service was very good. Adrian |
If youre running the RNS-C (up to Dec 99) then its the non-dx platform for sat nav discs which you can get here or if youre using RNS-D (Dec 99 onwards) then its the DX platform which you can get here. The RNS-C from memory is 2007 and you cant get a more up to date one but the RNS-D is the latest 2010/11 version +++
Here's the web page if you want to search for others http://www.bluespot.co.uk/shop-onlin...ation-software |
