Hi have pf a8 4.2 for some reason this morning car wouldn't start....the engine cranks over and goes to start...but then just stops...any ideas would be appreciated....last time it was driven was Friday morning so it's only been standing a couple of days....

If it starts for a second then stops it sound like immobilsor issues. :(

Could be fuel maybe |
Thanks for your replies guys....
Turns out the fuel pump fuse had blown....however when I put in a new fuse that blew too....at which point I gave up and have passed the car on to a local auto electrician....cos I figured he would diagnose the issue much quicker than me. Ps just at mrc today getting my s4 an oil service....mike ur rs4 looks stunning.... |

Let me know what power the S4 makes on the dyno |
I'm guessing the fuel pump has stalled!!! Drawing to much current trying to start and blowing fuzes.
Don't be cponned into a new fuel pump assembly you can change the pump as Amar can attest to. |
problem resolved
Got my a8 back today....just as you had said....the fuel pump had failed....fortunately the chap I gave the car to was really reasonable and changed it for next to nothing far as I am concerned....think he just charged me for a fuel pump.....
Curious though...why would a bad fuel pump draw so much current....I would have thought it would just stop working..... |
If the pump is stalled, ie some grit or crap stopping it turning then due to electrical mysteries it pulls more and more current to try to get it moving and therefore blows the fuse.
It's there as a safety device and it worked. No fuse then the pump would melt out and your car would go on fire and..... |
thanks for that....sounds like bypassing the fuse and having a dodgy fuel pump is a sure way to a car bomb....thanks god for that thin piece of fuse wire.....
