Rocker Gaskets

Been told my rocker gaskets are leaking, have been quoted £40 by a local garage but I've never used them before, they reckon it will take about an hour. Does this sound right? Also if anyone knows where/how much parts are I might even attempt it myself using the Audipages guide! Any help/advice would be much appreciated. +++

£40 sound s good for an hours labour and gaskets. But I would do it myself so I could get all oily and play with the car! +++

£40 was just for labour, I also had a quote of £100 but I think I will give it a go myself, going to try and source some gaskets on the weekend! Will let you know how I get along +++

DIYing will nearly always be a better quality job if you've got the knack. Garages work to time scales etc so you'll proly spend that little bit extra time to make sure no crap gets left on the cams etc.+++

WOW Ska, what ever did you use to get them looking that clean?
I asked a GSF about the rocker gaskets they said they don't do them for the '8, Audi say £29 each. I am thinking of popping down this afternoon and ordering them if anyone can confirm this sounds about right prise wise?

I got mine for about £22 from VAGparts who I've heard are no longer in business :(
I used some AG machine cleaner and some gunk degreaser to clean the properly baked oil+++

OOO I've got some of that AG Machine & Engine cleaner, will give it a go on its own. Went to Audi today and ordered them, they also gave me my locking nut FOC :) +++

Price sounds standard - you have a couple more cylinders to cover - I paid £25ish I think
The procedure on Audipages is sound - me and the wife did mine some time ago. Hardest bit I found was getting the gaskets to stay put to reinstall, and you may have to split a fuel line on the left-back (as you look under the bonnet) to get the cam cover off that side. Otherwise, easy peasy.

About to do this myself.
Did you guys use gasket sealer? If so, did you use the audi stuff or just general halfords style stuff?

I used locktite when doing another cars rocker gaskets. +++
