I've been to Bahrain twice for a short amount of time, it looked like a nice country, hope they work something out!

I lived there for 5 years, it is a nice country. Its just the factional issues of Sunni/Shia that are the problem. Sunni minority Royal family vs Shia majority population in a distinctly non- democratic monarchy. Its been all brewing for years.

Apart from that, Bahrain is lovely. They are a bit of a poor relation now in the Middle East and are effectively also being propped up by Saudi Arabia economically. But its certainly the most liberal of the Middle East states with regard to alcohol etc.
