Questions, questions.
Hi guys I have some questions, please don't flame me because I am new to Audi's.
Do all S8's after 1999 have sport mode? Where is the obdii / vag com port located? Gearbox seals and oil + belts seem to be the major offenders on this car is there anything else? Valve cover gaskets? I intend to do minor to moderate servicing myself is there anything I should be aware of? What's the best engine oil? Are most Audi garage's con artist's? How much performance gain do you get from a quad exhaust? Any simple mods that don't put any extra strain on the engine? Many thanks. |
Hi Andy.
8s after 2002 have the 'Sport' mode. On pre facelifts and some early 2000 facelifts it is located under the astray, and the later models it's just on top of the drivers footwell to the drivers door side. Valve cover gaskets can go, defiantly a DIY job. They haven't gone on my current or previous S8 though. Be aware of TPS, genuine Audi parts at trade prices. Most Audi garages don't know the D2 very well, find yourself a good specialist. Not any noticeable difference at all actually, de cat if and you may see some more power. Drilled air box, first mod I'd do. Lets the V8 be heard but isn't too loud. +++ |
Thanks Singh.

If you can, get one with Sport mode.
Best Mod is not really a mod A thorough service by the like of Ben at Revo to ensure everything is spot on and the mass airflow sensor is AOK. Important this as it feeds data to the gearbox and if it gets that wrong it can stuff the box. Beyond that a few of the guys on here have been remapping (with the aforementioned Ben-Revo) and their enthusiasm is epic, for moderate bucks Don't ask Audi what oil, my main dealer sold me the wrong stuff. Clueless tw4ts. Conan The Librarian will be able to help you with the specifics |
But the one with sport mode will cost you nearly double in tax a year!

In case you're wondering. We want a wunch of well off bankers. Think of them as the mother-lode of grin inducing car-ity |
Mine hasn't got sport mode :o
But I could get it fairly easily/cheaply (have a source) if its really that good and I was keeping the car... |
I didn't realise mine was rare in having sport mode :o must admit I've never used it lol - doesn't ever feel slow in D. I have it on my 04 A6 3.0 and I use it a lot in that as the damn thing is so heavy and underpowered!!

Well, 4/3/2 is compeltely useless and never used.
Sport isnt used very often, but golly gosh its rewarding if you're in the mood.... The TCU learns adaptively anyway, but in sport mode it gets way more sporty, way quicker.... +++ |
Pretty sure most FL D2s can have the 'S' TCU fitted.. There was a bit of a craze for it on quattroworld for a while.
