LWB Audi A4s & A6s in China
Hey,
I am currently in Beijing for work and i've been scoping out the local Audi carpark here...it's been quite interesting. It's quite a modern car park overall but I also noticed some interesting differences including a presence of LWB models for the A4 and A6 as well as a 2.8 non-quattro for the D3... ...i didn't realise LWB A4 and A6 models existed until now! Have also seen the new Merc E-class as a LWB as well as a Touareg Hybrid which has been interesting. Am i ill-informed or are these models not available in Europe? Beijing sounds like an interesting place. I've read somewhere before Audi did do long wheelbase versions of the A6 but ONLY for China, its an important Market for Audi and they are considered the best car brand about there.

Its all about the perceived status of the car and occupants. You are nobody unless you have a LWB.
Thus you will find LWB versions of many cars in China, including 5-Series, E-class, A6, SUV's, the newly launched RR Ghost EWB. The original Skoda Superb was the result of this fashion, it was planned to launch in China as Passat, but they let Skoda use it in Europe. The market is big enough to support the development cost of these vehicles in China, so expect to see more unusual stretches. |
