Think i got my first ever speeding ticket last night got flashed by a speed camera :-

was on the way back from manchester air port at 3am and it was really foggy could not see very well and i was doing 40mph as there were street lamps and out of no where a flash and it was a bloody speed camera im guessing it must have been a 30mph limit but i could not see any marking at all it was very foggy, any way around this ? or is it simply driver error

2 out of 3 don't have 'film' in, local authorities are less interested in the speed cameras than they used to be because the last Govt decided that the revenue raised would go directly to the HM Treasury rather than the local authority 'safety' partnership operating the camera.

No guarantee though, but good luck anyway

so about 50/50 then as to weather i will even get a ticket ?

I'd expect to get away with it - if you get a nasty surprise in the post it'll be for a 60 quid/3 points effort which shouldn't affect your insurance premium, assuming your licence isn't loaded with points which it doesn't sound like it is!

Most insurance companies are fairly easy going on SP30s so long as you've got no more than 2 on your licence at once.

They may offer you a driver improvement course, but you have to take it near where the 'offence' took place so may not be all that convenient if it's nowhere near home.

i have a very clean licence being that i am a taxi driver and i drive disabled children to school every day, im more concerned about it affecting the insurance for the fleet of taxi's
fingers crossed then

SP30 makes no difference, nor does an SP50, from my experience, as long as its declared.
The only 'people' who got 'shirty' with me were the DVLA regarding my HGV 1 licence holding...... whether or not I was a suitable candidate to hold one, despite the alleged offence ocurrng in my then XR4i !

I haven't used that for so many years, I think I'm going to let it lapse when it comes up for my medical (at 45 & then every 5 years thereafter)

First thing I thought when I read this was if it was that foggy you didn't see it until too late, then maybe you should have been going a bit slower in the fog :snigger:

Street lamps means 30 or if there were repeaters, 40 or 50.

where i live there is a 40 zone that is fully lit with street lights in a similar manner to what happened last night, lots of factors behind this though, the fact that i had a migrain and was very tired and the fog ect not a good combo for any kind of driving to be fair, i had set the cruse to 40 and was just tootling home at a snails pace visability was too poor to go much faster
