Disruption To Mobile Phone Service
I woke up today, to zero reception on my mobile service. My wife has the same problem.
Looks like a mast is down from gale-force winds. Has anyone else experienced this? We're both on O2, if that makes any difference. |
O2's reception generally has got more and more shocking over the last few years, i was told by a Motorola Cellular systems engineer mate that when they originally took on the iphone before all the other providers (on unlimited data for most too) they basically clogged up their network coverage with data and the mobile phone signals and service levels went down hill and have never recovered properly. They started to impose data limits on contracts a year or so ago but personally I am just finishing on an O2 contract after years and years with them as I cant get a good signal at work or home and it is constantly dropping calls. my work orange phone is exactly the same type of phone and has no issues at all and works just fine :(

^^^ I think it all boils down to geographical location. It's virtually impossible to find any network that'll be great everywhere. I've been with O2 for years, right from the Cellnet days, I've always found the service great.
Worked in the US too whilst I was out there, though I replaced my handset with an alternative one, as I wasn't returning to the UK anytime soon. O2 is back on too - it was a failed mast, victim of last night's gale force winds. :) |
Recently did some testing with all the networks, unless you live in a built up area don't bother with 3. Unfortunately we have three mobiles on their network:(
|
My colleague had both the O2 and Voda go down in his area, but he lives in the arse end of nowhere :)
O2 are shocking up here.. There are 4-5 spots on the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh that you are almost guaranteed to lose a call... I mean seriously, Scotland's busiest road with service gaps?? |
I moved to orange just over 2 year ago, and couldn't get a signal at home for love nor money, am already on the the way back to o2 this month who I never had any trouble with

phone signal
when i was looking at internet wireless dongle laptop combination...I was going to go with o2. However, when I went to the carphone warehouse the chap there was able to check coverage. And hence I went with T mobile.
Personally, I would suggest checking coverage for where you are most of the time....which I understand is difficult if you do alot of travellling....and then decide on network. |
02 have the best reception in the midlands, them coverage checkers are crap. They reckon I have perfect signal with Vodafone here but not even a bar. He probably just sold you the one that gave him more commission.

Nice little tool I use all the time at work lets you see what providers are in the area and where they are located.
