Glovebox light

Hi folks

Got in the car the other day and opened the glovebox, to find the light unit hanging down by its wires!! No idea why it has parted company as never really have much in there beyond a couple of CD cases and some bits and bobs.....

I've tried to refit it but I'm thinking I've probably got some broken tiny piece of plastic that should be helping to hold it in place.

From what I can feel (since you can't see it without a mirror!) it appears there's a hinge to the front of the light unit that needs to be fed into a metal cutout above the glovebox, and the rear sits against a curved section of metal but there appears no way of holding it there :(

Is something broken, or am I doing it wrong?!

I priced up a new light unit and it's about 30 quid, so I'd kinda like to rule out me being an idiot before I consider replacing it......

Cheers

Adrian

this also happened to mine Adrian, its a real pain to get back in, cant really remember the detail of exactly how but I eventually got it clipped back in think it took me many attempts, not much help to you I know but at least I share your pain:ROFL: Or if you have any friends who are Gynaecologists perhaps they could help, used to working in similar conditions I guess:)

Cheers Brian

I'm really not wanting to force it - the lip on the front side looks too big for it to be a clip in job, more a hold-it-at-90-degrees-then-fold-it-flat and something else will hold it in place.

I have a sneaking suspicion there should be some plastic clips that go in somewhere else that've been broken off mine. Until I can retrieve a suitably cheap and nasty compact mirror from the Mrs that she doesn't mind me trashing I'll probably never know lol

I have this too, thought the same as you Adrian that some plastic clip had broken off, i did think about blu tack or similar to hold it up there. It's just hanging there by the wires for now

I think I might have eventually dis-connected the cable from mine and removed the cover completely, I was then able to see how it should fit which made geting it back in easier, it did just clip in I think

Thats about a year we have been 8 owners now, and I still love driving it+++

Indeed - almost a year exactly +++ just looked back and I collected mine on 18th December!

Not that much fallen off mine considering it's been used almost daily! Nothing has failed apart from a bit of plastic trim falling off the passenger side front door and a failed ABS sensor.

The rest is service or down to poor roads (buckled wheel and refurbs due to tyre removal for a puncture repair!)

yeah mine was the 5th Dec last year, think I managed the only Sunday of the winter that there was no snow to go and get it and that reminds me must get it booked in for another service

cheers

Glovebox light

My advice would be to unbolt the glove box and the whole unit will drop down...then it will be easier to sort...there are only at most 4 bolts holding on....

Just to finish this thread off - thanks to a8parts a replacement glovebox light arrived in the post today. Once I'd glued 1 of the clips back on that'd parted company in the post lol I managed to swap them over easily enough and it's once again properly mounted

The replacement with its 2 silly little bits of plastic!

Hate little niggles like this so glad it was relatively painless to sort!
