Recommendations for a gearbox flush?

I've decided that the S8 needs a gearbox flush (on A4 Audi's recommendation) as a diagnostic scan revealed an intermittent sticking valve. They reckon its recent lack of use might have lead to this. They recommended Mackie's in Glasgow, but I wondered if any of the Alba inhabitants had other recommendations.

I want a top notch job though - I reckon if you're going to have it done, it should be done well.

Anyone here had this done in the Glasgow area?

Mackies are the local ZF agent Jim, and seem to have a good reputation, sure you will get a good job done but probably expensive, Richard said Andy did his:Confused:

Mackie's weren't cheap for a quote if I remember rightly, but they would do a proper flush with a squirty, pumpy, sucky, filly machine thingummabobber, rather than the standard, empty the sump, change the filter thing that A4Audi did on my cars (the audipages.com procedure).

They are the ZF (and general gearbox) specialists up here, so you wouldn't go wrong there.

Mine was much improved after the basic drop the filter out and refill option. Got 8 litres back in so most of it came out. Will get it done again in 2 years. Having the a6 done the same way next week - very noticeable it selects drive/reverse much quicker post-change

The flush option is definitely the more complete option, but really depends how bad you think it might be?

Whats the difference in price we are talking about here? it might be worth doing the proper flush with a squirty, pumpy, sucky, filly machine thingummabobber as a one off then the standard change at regular intervals thereafter

Your search - squirty, pumpy, sucky, filly machine thingummabobber - did not match any documents. :-(

Can't remember exactly how much... It wasn't a completely obscene amount to be honest, pretty sure it was a lot less than 500 quid all.

They were pretty quick at coming back with the quote though.

Hmmm, it did on my PC, but it wasn't anything to do with a gearbox - you must have some kind of filter on yours! :)

Thanks for the feedback guys, Mackie's it is. I think Andy at A4 Audi hinted at around the £300 mark. He said to ask for John and tell him Andy sent me. Andy acknowledged that they can't do the complete squirty, pumpy, sucky, filly machine thingummabobber process and he usually sends cars to Mackie's.

Bare in mind when flushing that the oil is about 20 quid a litre and it's going straight in the bin so likely to be a fair bit more

I can't recall precisely what I paid for the gearbox oil change on mine, but with an oil service and f125 switch (£160 on its own) it came to about £500
