I hate spammers
While I haven't been posting much due to lack of bandwidth and rebuilding my life I have been keeping an eye on the background activities in the Admins area.
Today as I have some bandwidth I have processed 54 new members. Only 23 of them passed the anti spammer checks, the first time more than 50% of new applicants have been found on anti spam databases. Sorry to all of you who like chinese copy trainers / pron / ink catridges / hamster food etc! :) |

Great to have you back Mike +++ |
why oh why do you have to block the hamster food I'll never know....
Yet again my kids will starve for another week...................:tuttut: Hi Mike :D |
As a moderator on another forum, I know what you mean. They now seem to have bots that go around, creating gmail accounts and the registering junk names on the forum. They are easy to spot, its just a manual hassle constantly disabling the accounts. From what I understand these bots are very intelligent and can get around nearly every captcha available.
We do not use VBulletin anymore, but switched to ipboard but the issues are the same. |
It used to be the case you could authorise every new user, then spend a vigilant 48 hours killing off the bots, but they got wise to that and wait now. I've seen authorised users wait 3 months before dumping spam in...

I can send you over some chewy dog biscuits if you are in need! |
I love all these special messages.
F'r'instance I got 2 Emails yesterday, one telling me the IRS (Yank Tax Man) wish to give me a refund and one from HMRC (our Tax Man) telling me the same. I've sent off all my bank details etc and am now just waiting for the money to arrive. I don't pay tax anyway so any refund must be an error at their end so it will probably never be noticed +++ I'll send you pics from my new holiday home once i have the money..... |
