New S8 on 6 or 7 cylinders???

Well after a 5hr journey through an accident on the M1 and 1hr queue at the dartford tunnel...I became the proud owner of Nick Johnson special S8. Unfortunately it is only running on 6 cylinders or 7...not sure which but still pulled well...

will add pics and more info a bit later....

So, you were looking for a diesel commuter car, and bought another S8.... You know its not any more economical because a few cylinders aren't working right?... ;)

Neil will be able to fix you up with an rSAP adapter for that if you need it... :p

I think Ranj just wanted something cheap to fix as a project when bored. :D
Still after a diesel I'm guessing. Ranj dropped by in this last night. Nice car, it has final editions, Xenon pluses and looks really smart. Sounded good as you drove off too.

I think its the lack of an rSAP adaptor that was the main reason his S8 became a spec in my rear view mirror tbh Ian, hes made a mistake going out buying another one - you can't just add the two together to make yourself faster! :D
I dont know why he didnt just buy your D3!

Also, Ranj has THREE sets of final editions currently.

S8 economy

Well the s8 was sold to the previous owner by nick Johnson...and when he bought it the mileage was 130k...picked it up yesterday and mileage was 142....only done 12k in two years...

The bodywork and interior is mint and the xenon pluses are a nice touch...the real bonus are the final editions...they are two toned colour with silver faces and black inners...

I bought it for the chance to strip an engine with not too much to lose...but by the way it drove and the fact that it gave me 19.2mpg on the way back I can't believe it has low compression on one cylinder as the owner thought...but time will tell

Ranj, come around. Bring your tools and Vag Com. I need you to fit my new steering wheel for me. I will be home from work at 5:30 PM.

You wont need vagcom.... But you will need time and plenty of light... Not a job to start late on in the day imo... +++

Dont forget the big ass breaker bar you'll need to get the current steering wheel off, oddly enough, they're on pretty tight... ;)

I have these instructions to follow Ian. Think it needs some sort of coding.

Right, an update on this thread. I finally took the dash appart and investigated the wiring. The double relay sized steering wheel control module J453 is not used when replacing the 4 spoke MFSW with a 3 spoke paddle tippy and to make wiring easy remove it (labelled 618. under the dash).

If you go ahead with this on the *RS6* you will need to do the following:
1. Replace the slip ring with the 3 spoke one (designed for non CAN bus wheels). There are not enough pins in the T5h on the 4 spoke one for this to work. p/n 1J0 959 654 M
2. wire 3 connections from the old relay socket under the dash, to a new (or 2nd hand T5h connection 4B0 973 605). This plugs directly into the slip ring.
T5h1 - pin7 of old J453 socket. (miniature spade)
T5h2 - pin2 of old J453 socket. (normal spade)
T5h3 - pin11 of old J453 socket. (normal spade)
T5h4 - not required.
The 4th connection is for wheel illumination for wheels with the buttons not the paddles.
3. Once this is done and it's all fitted, you MUST perform the steps listed here to set it up:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.p...Brake_Electronics_%28Bosch_5.7%29
Make sure you have a WSC entered or it wont work.
Login: 07197
Code: 06697
*the above codes are for the RS6 ONLY!

Oh yes, and be careful when playing with the slip ring cuz it's really easy to lose your place or brake it (like I did!). The one I was playing with was 2nd hand luckily as they are NOT cheap when new. I've tested the paddles in that they now work, but I've had to revert back until I get a replacement slip ring.
