Anyone do Spanish Garage?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi
Our barge has been dripping black oil for a while. Perhaps a teaspoon full on a friend's drive over 24 hours. No noticeable drop in levels but a smear under when we depart. Now in the south of Spain and after a long hard run a slightly larger than usual drip. Into the local stealer. All very friendly, on the hoist, take the bottom engine cover off and then we get an estimate for €1K I can guess at anti-freeze and engine oil items, but any clues as to the rest? Is our barge dead? I guess it will make it back to our specialist in Abingdon, but will it live on, or should I be calling A8 Parts? Appreciate your thoughts. |
If you can hang on an hour I'll get the missus to translate it for you.+++

Standing by in anticipation. Am due to retrieve the car from the stealers tomorrow morning.

Please bend down Mr Audi driver, we Spanish mechanics have a big surprise for you :ROFL: |
Sorry about the delay Mr T :D.
OK in my best Spanglish Juego Ret. 20 - It's a set of something (ret. is abbreviated and we can't work it out. Could be retrovisor-rear view mirror but doesn't make sense in this context) Cartucho - translates as cartridge. Any ideas? Tapa Culata - cylinder head (rocker?) cover Juego junto - Gasket set junta - gasket/seal Anticongel - anti freeze aceite motor - motor oil (96 feckin Euros???) Aportacion a sigaus - contribution to something (no idea but at 33c the least of your worries) Varios - various (I worked that one out:D) Would want a breakdown of that at 120 Euros. Desaireaction carter desmontado y montado - translates as cranckcase vent (so probably breather) removed and put back (not necessarily replaced) Junta P. tapa culata - desmontado y montado - rocker cover gasket removed and put back Tapa culata desmontado y montado- rocker (cylinder head) cover removed and put back Carter aceite desmontado y montado - crankcase oil (ATF?) removed and put back Comprobar perdida de aceite y presion - check for loss of oil and pressure Limpieza y petroelado de motor - clean and not sure but it could be flush the engine. I hope this helps you out. It's a bit harder than it looks :D Steve |
I believe cartucho = (filter) cartridge

If its just leaking oil it looks like a cam cover gasket has gone. Just keep topping up until you get back to the uk. Its a DIY job. Couple of hours and abouit £20.

Sounds almost like they want to do a rebuild :)
The 'cartridge' could be an oil filter. If it's only about a teaspoon a day, then I'd just keep on top of it and wait until I got to a garage I could trust.. Not saying these guys have it wrong, but with the language barrier.. you never know. |
THANKS guys.
I'm reassured that nothing serious has suddenly happened, and so I think I'll go with the flow and wait until I get back. I'm happy its not a steering rack leak or other nastiness. I don't even have to top it up as the levels appear to be OK. Water doesn't seem to be dropping or getting in either. Must be coming from somewhere, but as its modest maybe the dipstick is not accurate enough to measure the loss. It just looks dramatic on the parking garage floor. When I visit mates with light coloured driveways, I'll park on the grass. Thanks again. |
PAS fluid has a quite distinctive smell, as I know from experience, and you should be glad it's not that, replacing the rack is a horrible job
